Famous Phyllis..... Daily Trials with Mother 16th & 17th of June

Famous Phyllis - Daily Trials with Mother …. Well I have to admit Mum has been fairly quiet by normal standards, maybe because both my sister and I have visited her over the past couple of days.  I popped round yesterday for a chat and to order the vitamins that she wanted me to go and buy in town! Mum - "I thought you might get these for me from town?" Me - "No way am I venturing down Bank Heys Street when there are masses of people queueing to get into Primark or Sports Direct!" Mum (looking disappointed) - "Really? Do you think they will still be queueing in two weeks time?" Me - I smile and say "Well not the same people obviously, but I don't know when the queues will calm down."  Mum is obviously planning to get in to town as soon as she can, if only by bus, although I remind her she will have to wear a mask on the bus. Humph goes Mum, I can see problems on the horizon as she says "Well I don't know about wearing a mask, as it will affect my breathing and as for queueing, well you know me and my legs!" I suggest that maybe she should try wearing a mask at home and see how it goes, as concessions are made for people who struggle to wear them." I immediately have visions of Mum not wearing a mask on the bus and also making her way past the queues to get into shops! While I am sat I suggest I order her vitamins on line from the Health Shop she usually uses, approximately £70 later, with numerous vitamins ordered, I ask her what the Doctor thinks about her taking all these vitamins.  I ask why she doesn't take a multivitamin instead of all the separate ones? Mum - "No they don't work the same! Anyway £70 isn't bad as that will cover me for three months, as that's when I last got some."  Me - I decide it's not worth arguing about as I will never win, so I remind her tomorrow is shopping day and leave.

            Wednesday 17th of June - Mum rings me she is quite chirpy as her huge consignment of vitamins has arrived already, Mum is mega impressed! Happy that I have done something right for once.  She rings me back later with another huge shopping list, that Gary my husband cannot believe is for one person. When I speak to my sister later, she laughs and says it is probably for the communal party on Sunday!  Tell me more I say, she laughs as she tells me about her visit today where she met one of Mum's male neighbours. Quite a character who Mum has nicknamed 'Romeo', he tells my sister about the party they are having for someone's Birthday on Sunday and adds did your Mum not tell you about our party? We have invited your Mum, because everyone round here knows her although nobody likes her, but thought we had better be polite!"  My sister laughs and says "you know when someone is joking but really telling the truth?" Hmm we both agree Mum has only been there six months but has no doubt made herself known in the area. Ha Ha Famous Phyllis ….. I cannot wait to hear about the party on Sunday, although I worry about the social distancing.
