Thursday 19th November 2020 - Daily Life Trials & of course Mother!

Well today marks three weeks since we came home from hospital, yes we are better than this time three weeks ago, but we are nowhere near 100% better!  However thankfully we are no longer in Zombie Central, at least that's how it felt three weeks ago, as we both looked like ghosts and I am sure we moved around as slowly too.   When I think back the only plus was that Mum limited her telephone calls to once a day and that was usually late afternoon, as we spent most of the time sleeping 24/7!!  Then it was usually to tell us to eat more, when we could barely even boil an egg or to tell us to swallow more vitamins.  Funnily enough our eldest son, Gavin, who was also poorly with Covid, actually ordered some vitamins to come to us by post.  These seemed to help Gary but my mouth ulcers are reluctant to disappear, no I haven't told my Mum about those.  Otherwise she would be ringing everyday to give me another solution, or to tell me that she has got mouth ulcers herself!  On the food side we managed to order some ready prepared meals from Wiltshire Farm Foods but had to wait three days for those to arrive and had no appetite for the ready meals my sister had kindly given us.  So when two lovely ladies dressed as witches called round on the Saturday (which happened to be Halloween) we thought they were angels as they delivered two bags from the local community centre, each bag contained a homemade Hotpot and Apple Crumble.  I could barely lift one bag, but once we got the bags in, Gary and I stood crying and hugging each other, we were so overwhelmed by the kindness of the team at the South Shore Hub, who probably didn't realise how much it meant to us and actually provided us with four meals as we couldn't eat so much.

Yes lately we are back to Mum's usual complaint that she cannot even go out shopping as she has now received her official letter from Downing Street to say she must shield. "Oh if only I could go out and wander around town" Me - "But Mother nowhere is open!!" Mum replies as usual " Well I don't know, I would love to just wander round the supermarket, it would make my day! " Me - "Well you might pick up some Covid too while you're there, that's the reason you have to shield!"  I do realise it must be so frustrating having been in for almost eight months, although we did manage to take Mum out for her Birthday, but despite having had Covid - in fact more so now - I am even more wary of picking up germs, but of course my Mum doesn't understand that!

I had to smile when the Doctor came to discharge me, his instructions were that I had to come home to recuperate, relax and under no circumstances stress about anything!  Tonight we are already up to five phone calls from my Mum, no I am not shopping for my Mum at the moment. Thankfully when I fell ill I managed to get a telephone number for Morrison's and so she has been having her weekly shopping delivered. Although she is getting my sister Michelle - who should also be shielding really - to pick up all the things Mum has forgotten!! Grrr it makes me so angry as I have always told Mum if she's forgotten something it can't be that urgent and it will have to wait for the following week unless it was toilet paper or something equally necessary.  It really worried me that my sister is putting herself at risk!  But back to tonight's calls firstly telling me that Morrisons Morrison's have sent the wrong type of paracetamol, then the call that really took the biscuit, that she has had yet another demand for her to pay for a TV Licence!!  Despite my having written to them to confirm that Mum is eligible for a Free TV Licence, no stress!? I explain to Mum where she has put her letter confirming the free licence but she cannot find it and it is making her ill!!!  I am tempted to say that makes two of us, but I am sure that wou!d set Mum off on a rant! So I try to just think to myself just breathe and relax.....
